Frequently Asked Questions-
Q: I have an Event to go to, when should I make my Tanning Appointment?
A:You would want to make it 1 to 2 days before the Event.
*Q: Are there Pre-Tan Preparations?
A: Yes! For maximum result EXFOLIATE ALL OVER the night before! This promotes an even coverage and lengths the duration of your tan by removing dead skin that would otherwise flake off. Do not injure the skin by overdoing it. Make sure to shave and wax at least 24 hours before your spray tan. Your skin MUST be clean from all lotions, body sweat, perfumes and deodorants. Remove any product on the skin that would create a barrier. Lotion and deodorant act as barriers and can even turn your tan green. If you are planning on having a Pedicure and/or Manicure do so before your tanning session. Our process will not discolor your nails.
Q: What do I wear or not?
A: Attire for a Freedom Skin Care & Tanning spray tan session is truly whatever you are comfortable with, even going topless. One exception is that we do not allow full lower body nudity due to liability and safety precautions. Our goal is to manage your level of comfort while maintaining the utmost in professionalism, making it a pleasant experience for every client. After the session, we recommends that you wear loose fitting, dark, cotton clothing as DHA can react to nylon, silk, and wool. These fabrics along with bra’s, sports bra’s and socks should not be worn immediately following your custom airbrush tanning session.
Q: Will spray tanning help the appearance of Vitiligo?
A: Yes! At Freedom Tanning Inc. we take the time to minimize the look of those white patches and give you a more even over all healthy glow.
Q: How does it work?
A: The amino acids on your skin's surface will respond naturally to the active ingredient dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and other complementing ingredients to produce the most gorgeous sunless tan you've ever seen. Results are immediate but will continue to develop over 8-12 hours.
Q: Is it Safe?
A: Yes. The active ingredient in most sunless tanning products is known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a simple non-toxic sugar, which gained FDA approval in 1973. It is often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane. When applied to the skin, DHA penetrates only the top layer of skin, and does not absorb into the body or bloodstream. For the extra cautious, we sell nose filters which you can wear during your tan for a low cost of $3.00.
Q: Will it turn me orange?
A: Absolutely not! People turn orange when the solutions applied to their skin contain too high of a concentration of DHA for their skin type (which comes from a lack of adequate training and execution by a technician), along with solutions that contain inferior quality DHA and other chemicals that should not be applied to the skin.
Q: How long does it last?
A: Depending on a person's activities, skin products, skin type and how well you maintain it, the tan lasts approximately 5-7 days (up to 10 for some people).
Q: How long does it take to apply?
A: Your initial consultation will take 30 minutes to evaluate your skin type and develop a recipe that’s been blended just for you. After that, an average session takes only about 15 to 20 minutes to apply.
*Q: How do I Maintain My Tan?
A: Wait at least 8 to 12 hours before showering or doing any activity which would result in getting your tan wet. To ensure your tan will remain even DO NOT GET WET!!!
Apply moisturizer morning and evening after your post-tan shower. Avoid moisturizers with AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) because they promote exfoliation. Avoid long, hot showers and baths, and scrubbing the skin. If you use a wash cloth when bathing, choose one that is as soft as possible. Pat your skin dry after bathing or showering. Chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs can remove or shorten the longevity of your tan. Avoid makeup remover. Take care when exercising as friction and excess sweat may cause your tan to fade prematurely or unevenly. Powder is useful.
Q: Does an airbrush spray tan protect me from the sun?
A: No! Our airbrush tanning solution does not provide any SPF protection. To protect your skin and extend your spray tan, use an SPF that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide both offering a broad spectrum of protection from both the UVB and UVA ray.
